The Texas Independent Music Expo is proud to present their Annual Performing Songwriter Competition, held in conjunction with the Texas Independent Music Expo at Sons of Hermann Hall, November 5, 2011.
Eligibility: The Texas Independent Music Expo Songwriting Competition is open to amateur songwriters. For the purposes of this contest, an amateur songwriter is defined as someone who doesn't have a song which has been commercially released, nor is represented by professional management as a songwriter.
Judging: Entries will be pre-judged on originality, melody, lyrics, rhythm, and relevance to the criteria. Ten (10) semi-finalists will be selected and will be judged on the previous criteria as well as production and performance. Each semi-finalist will perform one song "live", without the aid of recorded backup, of which 5 finalists will be selected. The 10 semi-finalists will be announced and notified immediately by the quickest possible means. Professional songwriters and other music industry professionals will judge all contest entries. All decisions by judges will be final. Winners will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging. Two alternatives will be chosen in case of a no-show.
Note: This is not a band competition - solo only! Entrants may have one person back them up on an instrument of choice if they cannot accompany themselves. No backup vocals will be permitted.
Winners and Prizes: A first, second and third place winner will be selected. Prizes for the winners will be in the form of cash, gift cards and prizes valued at over $1000, to include studio time and a one song video courtesy of JoMusik in Sunnyvale, TX.
The first winner will receive an invitation to perform a twenty minute set on the main stage immediately following competition and will be invited back the next year to perform an extended set.
The second and third place winners will also receive cash, gift cards and prizes respectively.
